Jonathan Walker was born in Melbourne, Australia and brought up on a dairy farm in Gippsland. In the 1970’s he studied painting at RMIT and won the Harold Wright Scholarship to the British Museum, London.

During the 1980’s he exhibited at Pinacotheca Gallery, Richmond and had work shown at the NGV and Heidi City Art Gallery.

Over the same period he designed the cover for the “Epigenesi” LP by Giancarlo Toniutti, Italy and conducted a mail exchange work with Achim Wollscheid, Germany.

The work with artists through the post resulted in an article published in the bicentenary issue of Art and Australia 1988.

He showed in artist run spaces such as WestSpace in the 90’s and 2000’s, and until 2012, taught painting at Victoria University.

Since 1997 he has been painting exclusively mirror images from metal and glass. A small selection is presented online.

With the exception of the spectral paintings, all work is made directly from life. Apart from the drawings and framed watercolour, all works are oil on linen .
